On October 26, 2024, the HFF School of Film and Visual Arts, in partnership with Ground Zero Bangladesh, hosted an engaging masterclass on documentary filmmaking, led by renowned filmmaker Humaira Bilkis. The session took place at Ground Zero’s Dhaka venue and attracted a select group of emerging filmmakers eager to learn from one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated documentarians.
Humaira, known for her nuanced exploration of human relationships and acclaimed documentaries like Things I Could Never Tell My Mother, shared her insights on storytelling, visual aesthetics, and the challenges of documentary filmmaking. Her film, celebrated at festivals worldwide, served as a key case study, inspiring participants to deepen their approach to capturing personal narratives on screen.
This masterclass was part of Praxis: Film and Visual Arts, a six-month program designed to support early-career Bangladeshi filmmakers and visual artists. Out of numerous applicants, ten participants were selected for this exclusive session, which blended practical guidance with discussions on cinematic expression.
The event marked another successful collaboration between HFF School of Film and Visual Arts and Ground Zero Bangladesh, reinforcing their commitment to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers in Bangladesh.
