Selected Participants Announced for Praxis: Film and Visual Arts Program

We are delighted to announce the talented group selected for our Praxis: Film and Visual Arts program, curated by the HFF School of Film and Visual Arts. These 14 participants bring a diverse range of backgrounds and artistic insights, showcasing the vibrant creative community within Bangladesh. The chosen individuals, listed alphabetically, reflect a blend of experience across film, photography, and multidisciplinary arts:

ABHIJIT SHUVO
Abhijit Shuvo is a documentary photographer born and raised in the southeastern region of Bangladesh. His artistic exploration seeks to contextualize personal memories, socio-cultural circumstances, and geopolitical perspectives. In 2018, Abhijit completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration and also graduated in photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. He has attended numerous workshops, including the “International Storytelling Workshop 2022” in collaboration with OsloMet-Pathshala-Photo Circle, “Exploring Urban Space” by Peter Bialorzeski at Chobimela, and “Documentary Filmmaking” by Amirul Arham at Alliance Française.

ABIJIT CHAKMA
Abijit Chakma studies at Gano Bishwabidyalay. He likes to explore photography, film and documentary on culture.

ABU SALEH MD NASIM
Abu Saleh MD Nasim started his filmmaking journey, as an editor, at Motion People Studios Limited. He later joined Red October Films to work for their film Bonolota Sen by renowned director Masud Hasan Ujjal. He is currently working as an Assistant Editor and Assistant Director there. With passion and dedication, he aims to establish himself in the Bangladeshi film industry.

AJMI RAHAMAN
Ajmi Rahaman is an avid film enthusiast with a sharp eye for cinematography. She is a master’s graduate in Mathematics from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. She’s proven her multifaceted talent by performing voice-over acts and directing a conceptual piece on Copernicus’ Heliocentric Theory at an International Conference of Physical Science in SUST. Currently, she’s channeling her passion into a short film project, aiming to amplify female perspectives in both directing and storytelling. Intrigued by the intricate framing of scenes, the subtlety of short shots, and the storytelling power of montages, she engages deeply with the emotions, symbolism, and metaphors engraved into each cinematic moment, revealing the profound artistry behind every detail.

AZMAIN ISHMAM
Azmain Ishmam (He/Him) is an artist, filmmaker, and activist from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has been creating documentary films and photography series on various topics, ranging from gender-based violence to meditation. He has collaborated with different artists and studios on political issues. His work was part of the National Gallery of Victoria’s Triennial 2023 Megacities exhibition.

BIPIN CHAKMA
Bipin Chakma is a passionate Fine Art student specialized in painting at Jahangirnagar University. Currently, he is honing his skill in 3D animation at Scout Institute of Animation. He already has delved into video editing for educational tutorials and contributed to the ‘Khoka Project’ at Dreamer Donkey (Pvt.) Limited. With a dream to become an animator, he is crafting his path towards creating captivating animation films that inspires and resonates with audiences worldwide.

CORDELIA DEWAN
Cordelia Dewan is currently pursuing her academic studies in English at Jahangirnagar University. She finds solace and self-discovery in immersing herself in the creation and analysis of narratives, aspiring to provoke profound impact and resonance through the expressive force of visual arts.

EZAZUL HAQUE FAHIM
Ezazul Haque Fahim is an experienced Director and Producer adept at orchestrating impactful projects, including renowned initiatives like the UNESCO’s endeavor to preserve Rickshaw and Rickshaw Art as Bangladesh’s cultural heritage. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering alongside specialized courses in cinematography.

JAJONG NOKREK
Jajong is a dedicated photographer and filmmaker currently enrolled in photography courses at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. With a fervent passion for visual storytelling, Jajong aims to master the art of capturing life’s moments through the lens. Under the tutelage of industry experts at Pathshala, Jajong is refining skills and expanding creative horizons. With a commitment to professionalism and artistic excellence, Jajong aspires to make a significant impact in the realm of visual arts, translating passion into captivating images and compelling narratives.

KHENCHENGFRU MARMA
Khengchengfru Marma is a third-year student at Dhaka University, hailing from the serene town of Khagrachari. With an unwavering passion for storytelling, Khengchengfru aspires to be a filmmaker, using the language of cinema to evoke emotions, challenge norms, and transport audiences to new realms. Whether capturing candid moments or scripting fictional narratives, she believes in the transformative power of visual storytelling. In 2020, Khengchengfru Marma wrote and directed the short film “Paing Pwongre” as her first work. This thought-provoking work delves into the sensitive topic of menstruation, shedding light on its significance and breaking societal taboos.

MOHIN RAKHAINE
Mohin Rakhaine, a young filmmaker from the Rakhaine culture, studies film at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. Starting in television as an art director, Mohin’s debut short film, “A Snail Without Shell”, explores philosophical themes. Now, Mohin sets his sights on his next feature film, “TSIRIMA”, a cinematic journey into the heart of Rakhaine culture that promises to explore tradition, spirituality, and the essence of existence.

MUNADIZZAMAN PULOK
Munadizzaman Pulok is a poet,novelist,script writer and director. He worked as a teacher and contributed as a poet and story teller in some magazine. ‘Mohon Ghatok’ is his first novel. He is currently working on developing his first feature film.

RAFI NUR
Rafi, a Media Studies and Journalism graduate, brings a humble dedication to his work in media and art. With experience as an assistant director for TV commercials, he values collaboration and storytelling. His involvement with AKALIKO culminated in a showcase at Chobimela X, followed by roles as an art mentor at the Dhaka Art Summit. Rafi’s journey, marked by gratitude and learning, reflects his unwavering commitment to cinematic storytelling and the transformative power of art.

TAKIA MONAW -WARA KATHA
Takia Monaw-wara Katha is a third -year student of Television, Film and Photography Department, University of Dhaka. She wants to work as a filmmaker. Her interests are Cinema Human Psyche, Portrait Photography, Music, Poetry and Bengali Culture.
